MOVE for families

Finding out that your child has a disability or raising a child with a disability can be hard. The MOVE Programme provides the means for your child  to progress their mobility skills to the best of their ability, allowing them to lead more independent and happy lives. MOVE has not only proven to have health benefits for children and adults using it, but also results in parents and carers spending less time on routine care and more time on family life.

Can MOVE help my child?

The MOVE Programme is designed for anyone who:

  • Has not learnt to sit, stand or walk by     the age that they should have done.     Children, on average, will be able to sit     by the age of six months and walk by 14     months.
  • Have lost their mobility skills through     other causes. For example, a person     who used to be able to walk but has lost     skills by spending too long in a     wheelchair, or who has had a stroke or     an accident.
  • The MOVE Programme is not a cure but provides the opportunity to progress. Nobody is too old to learn nor too disabled either physically or cognitively to benefit. There are, however some pre-existing conditions that might exclude a person from MOVE, for example brittle bones or severe orthopaedic difficulties. It is therefore important to have someone with a medical background e.g. a therapist on each MOVE team.
